Natural Beauty? Common Threads

I participated in a project for a summer exhibition to be held at Bedesworld in South Shields, organised by Find Your Talent, the Natural Beauty? Common Threads. This summer-long event will feature artworks and fashion installations that highlights the historic impact of fashion on the female body using material that can be found at Bedesworld farm and some donations from local residents.

Being in the team of three other colleagues from Newcastle Business School at Northumbria University, I managed to execute the design and layout of the poster and here I feature the evolution of the artwork transformed into a marketing material that is expected to come out to the local and national (tentatively) press and flyers to be distributed sometime in September.

The exhibit officially opens on 12 September 2009, a must see event for art lovers.

The initial layout proposed for the poster and flyer as of June 2009. The idea was suggested by Find Your Talent Project Manager, Kate from the initial project debriefing. It is basically inspired by "the three graces" on a fashion sketched effect.

The images and colour had to be changed as agreed by team members, to highlight the details of fashion styles representing the Georgian, Victorian and Anglo-Saxon era.

The previous idea was reconsidered, removing the details and keeping the rough-sketched look, with dark highlights on the background shadow.

The lady in the corset had to be replaced by the previous one, and a background colour with some graphics added were done.

Finally, the original concept of a sketch pad with "tea stain" effects added, the poster has been finalised.
